The drive from Hobart to the Bruny Island Ferry at Kettering takes visitors past some excellent produce outlets. In particular, the butcher at Snug (Snug Butcher, 2203 Channel Hwy, Snug TAS 7054; Phone: (03) 6267 9127) where meat can be pre-ordered and rib-eye steaks are a specialty; and the Oyster Cove Store (2701 Channel Hwy, Oyster Cove TAS 7150; Phone: (03) 6267 4340) offers a great range of locally sourced cheese, meat, seafood, bread and drinks.

Once on the island and travelling south towards Bruny Island . au accommodation, there is a string of excellent food and drink producers that are highly recommended to visitors wanting to enjoy the best quality local provisions.

The Honey Pot has been collecting honey on Bruny Island for over 20 years and offer a range of exceptional honeys, including the highly prized Manuka honey, and the Tasmanian Leatherwood honey with a reputation for a strong, unmistakable flavour. The Bruny Island House of Whisky is the winner of the Tasmanian Hospitality Association 2015 Best Specialty Bar in Tasmania, and provide a huge range of Tasmanian and imported whiskies, as well as smoked meats and fish. Further south on the main road you come to Get Shucked ( 1650 Bruny Island Main Road, Great Bay, Tasmania 7150; Phone: 0428 606 250; [email protected]; www.getshucked.com.au ), an oyster farm and oyster bar that is home to the freshest oysters anywhere – they are literally grown across the road and harvested daily.

Further south, past The Neck and the township of Alonnah, is Bruny’s winery: Bruny Island Premium Wines (4391 Main Road, Lunawanna, Tasmania 7150; Mobile: 0409 973 033; [email protected]; www.brunyislandwine.com ), home to premium wines and cider from Australia’s southern-most vineyard. It offers an extensive lunchtime dining menu showcasing exquisite Bruny Island produce.

Best coffee in the Island can be found at the Lunawanna Cafe (12 Lunawanna Road). Don't miss the chance to stop by for amazing coffee, great food and its whimsical Dr Seuss original artwork. A must-do! while you are exploring the Island.

Milk, bread, chocolate and other essential provisions – like made-to-order bread rolls or excellent hamburgers – can be picked up at the Alonnah General Store (3 William Carte Drive, Alonnah; Phone: 03 6293 1029) or the Adventure Bay General Store (710 Adventure Bay Road, Adventure Bay; Phone: (03) 6293 1119).

Across the road from the water at Alonnah is the Bruny Hotel (3959 Main Road, Alonnah, Tasmania 7150; Phone: (03) 6293 1148 ; Mobile: 0427 931 271 ; ) – a good location to enjoy a quiet beer or two or a nice dinner overlooking the water. Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, visitors are welcome to take part in a truly Bruny experience: the weekly meat raffle, Friday nights at 6pm.
